Definition of Horoscope
A horoscope is a chart of an ecliptic from a certain place at a given time.
The content of Horoscope
The horoscope consists of
- zodiac signs’ circle;
- planets residing in it;
- aspects between the planets;
- house circle.
If the exact date or place of birth is not known then there is no second house circle, and such a chart is called a cosmogram.
Main Characteristics of Horoscope
However, first and foremost, it is important to see not the detailed components of the horoscope, but the whole picture: predominance of the elements, the modalities, hemispheres; are planets on the top of horoscope or at the bottom, on the left or on the right side mostly or all around the circle more or less evenly. This tells a lot about the person, their nature, the character, and the realization.
The elements
There are four elements: fire, earth, air, and water. All zodiac signs and planets are related to some element, expressing its qualities.
Fire – activity, courage, leadership,
Earth – practicality, stability, diligence,
Weather – mentality, dynamics, communicability,
Water – sensitivity, empathy, creativity.

Modalities
Each of the four elements manifests in three modalities: Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable. Each planet or sign has one of these qualities.
The strength of each modality is different:
Cardinal type is ready to initiate the process; this is a leader’s type;
Fixed type is willing to continue;
Mutable type is linked to change, transform.
Hemispheres
Hemisphere is a division of horoscope (or cosmogram) into upper and lower halves, using Ascendent-Descendent axis as a dividing line, and into left and right halves, using Midheaven-Imum Coeli axis as a dividing line.
- The lower hemisphere is related to internal processes, introversion, family life.
- The upper hemisphere is related to external processes, extraversion, social activity.
- The left hemisphere is related to individuality, tendency to shape one’s reality.
- The right hemisphere is related to the partnership, adaptivity to the environment.
Quadrants
The first quadrant, beginning with Aries, is called the quadrant of childhood, the second, beginning with Cancer, stands youth, the third, starting with Libra, means maturity, the fourth, starting with Capricorn, is related to old age. Quadrants can be used to divide both the cosmogram and the horoscope.
Specific characteristics of horoscope
In addition to common characteristics, there are specific ones. Avesta’s astrology school attaches great importance to the Solar Days and the Lunar Days.
