Planets
Important to know
Planets
The classic astrology from ancient times knew seven planets visible to the naked eye. Later three more distant ones were discovered. There are also smaller heavenly bodies asteroids and mathematically calculated points, sometimes called Virtual Points, which have no physical bodies, such as Arabic parts, Lunar nodes, Lilith, Selena, and others. All astrology schools use the positions of 7 Classical Planets. Modern Western astrology traditions use Distant Planets as well. Some also attach great importance to asteroids or Virtual Points.
Classical Planets
There are seven planets of the Solar System well known from the ancient time and visible to the naked eye: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Sun and Moon are the central celestial bodies in a horoscope called Luminaries.
Inner (Personal) Planets
Inner planets are Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars. They may be called personal because they express specific components of personality and their qualities:
Sun – consciousness, the way of understanding of the world,
Moon – unconsciousness, emotions,
Mercury – rational mind, the form of communication,
Venus – the principle of sympathy, attractiveness. Venus meanings in zodiac signs you will find here:
Mars – a form of acting, will power. Mars meanings in zodiac signs you will find here;
Mid-range (Social) Planets
The mid-range planets are Jupiter and Saturn. They are called social because they no longer reflect personal traits but general tendencies, characteristics of a particular period – a year or two. In the natal horoscope, they aren’t activated not for everyone, but for those who are concerned not only with personal but also with social interests. These planets are especially important for public figures, leaders who take responsibility, leading large groups of people in society.
Jupiter is concerned with development, justice, success, faith, optimism.
Saturn is connected with discipline, strategy, duty, firmness.
Outer Planets
Uranus, Neptune, and finally Pluto were discovered later when a telescope was invented: Uranus founded in the 18 century, Neptune first saw in19 century and Pluto revealed in 20 century; the latter for a long time even wasn’t recognized as a planet by astronomers. These planets are associated with large groups of people, collective consciousness, spiritual development, and circumstances that go far beyond the will of one person.
Uranus is about change, freedom, friendship, collectivism, inventions;
Neptune is about inspiration, spirituality, subtle creation, compassion,
Pluto is about transformation, extreme situations, magic, and high energy, connected both with nature and with a crowd of people.
Asteroids
There are hundreds of asteroids. Some astrology schools pay little attention to asteroids, while others pay considerable attention to them. The most commonly used asteroid is Chiron, while the Russian astrology school uses Proserpina as well, which is considered a Virtual Point in Western astrology, not yet discovered as a celestial body.
Chiron is related to diplomacy, paradox, with areas where one can help others, but not to oneself, which is why the Western tradition calls it a “wounded healer.”
Proserpina is related to precision, healing, transmutation (ability to change the macro system through micro-changes).
Virtual Points
They aren’t planets, but mathematically calculated points as the ratio of planet orbits. The most important of these points is the Lunar Nodes associated with the Earth, Moon, and Sun orbits. Lilith and Selena are associated with Moon orbit. Lunar Nodes are known in all astrological traditions, while Selena and Lilit are mostly used in Avestan (Persian) astrology. Although they aren’t planets, they are, however, essential in astrology, especially when it comes to karmic processes.
Rahu or North Lunar Node, the rising one, expresses the direction of evolution, what one should seek, and learn in this life. About Rahu you will find here:
Kethu or South Lunar Node, the descending one, expresses what we have learned, what we do not need to learn individually, but what we can rely on as a skill.
Lilith, or the Black Moon, is a point of a possible fall, a temptation through which we are vulnerable because of past mistakes, excessive egoism, where we have activated karmic debts.
Selena White Moon, a guardian angel, the brightest area, where we are selflessly doing the right actions, and that is why they have a blessing and protection in this area. More about Selena you will find here:
